At Pollen Street Pharmacy we offer a range of vaccinations.

Available Vaccinations include:

The Whooping Cough Vaccine (Boostrix®)

  • Boostrix® is a vaccine that helps protect infants from whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus - life-threating diseases caused by bacterial infections. Immunity to whooping cough wanes over time. Adults need regular booster vaccinations to help protect themselves and infants that are too young to be fully immunised themselves - especially as 70% of whooping cough infections in newborns are passed on by a person in close contact with the baby. Create a circle of protection around your baby. We recommend that Dads, Grand Parents, Friends, Cousins, Siblings, Aunts & Uncles and Childcare Providers also get vaccinated. Charge applies.
  • Boostrix® is available FREE if you are between 28 and 38 weeks pregnant.

The Influenza Vaccine (Influvac®)

  • Influvac® helps to protect against current strains of the influenza virus. Infection with the influenza virus may lead to a stay in hospital for any age group but particularly if you are elderly or have an ongoing medical condition. Even if you do not end up in hospital, influenza can keep you in bed for a week or more, preventing you from doing work, sport or just about anything that requires you leaving the house.
  • Influvac® is usually available from 1st March to 31st December, and is FREE for people aged 65 years or over. For people under 65 years old, a charge applies.

The Shingles Vaccine (Zostavax®)

  • Zostavax® is used to reduce the risk of shingles (herpes zoster). After recovery from chicken pox, the varicella-zoster virus remains latent (sleeping) in the spinal nerves. Years later the virus may reactivate causing shingles. Zostavax® is licensed for adults aged 50 years and older. The risk of developing shingles increases with advancing age from the age of 50 years.
  • Zostavax® is NOT a funded vaccine. Charge applies.
